Angela Chalmers
Angela Chalmers has always been my inspiration for my middle distance running career which has had it's fair share of ups and downs. What matters is that although life hands you a road full of challenges and hardships, it is important to stay focused on what is important to you and to never give up on your dreams. It is important to follow your inspirations and goals, no matter how small they may be. I have followed as much as I can in Angela's footsteps in that I compete in the 3000 m indoor and outdoor track events as well as the 1500 m.
Personal Bests Include:
Indoor 3000 m- 9:57
Indoor 1500 m- 4:36
Outdoor 5Km- 17:31
Outdoor 10 km- 38:00
I have followed as much as I can in Angela's footsteps in that I compete both Nationally and Internationally in Cross Country, Track and Road Racing that has taken me all over the world. This would not have been possible if I had not secured a spot on the Canadian National CISM Running Team. I compete in the 3000 m (much like Angela but not nearly as fast) and am currently ranked fourth in the country at the CIS National level. I also will be competing in the 1500 m event at the World Military Track and Field Championships in India (October, 2007).
The biggest challenge that I have had to overcome is handling a very challenging academic program while pursuing a degree in Physiotherapy at the University of Manitoba while at the same time training for National calibre athletic competitions. I also have to spend my summer months training with the military to become a medical officer in the Canadian Armed Forces while balancing academics and my running career. However, it can all be done with a lot of determination, time management and a strong will to succeed. I want people out there to see that great things happen to those with the determination to make the best of what they are given.
