Mentors

There are NO Female coaches for me to have as a Mentor in alpine ski racing. From my past however, I look up to a former coach of mine who knew how to get the best from me in my racing endeavours.

Coaching History

I have been a ski racing coach since 1988 when I retired after the Olympics. I have coached all different age groups from 11, right up to 20 years of age. I love working with our future Olympians.

Coaching Philosophy

The term "Never give up" fits very well with ski racing as it is mainly a series of mistakes down a course and what we can do in reaction to these mistakes. If they gave up every time they made a mistake, no one would ever finish a race!!

Greatest Achievement

Instilling the love of alpine ski racing to numerous athletes throughout Canada.

Motivation/Encouragement

Every athlete is different and has a different way to get their athlete focused. i believe every coach should know which tactic to take for each individual athlete. for example, some boys like to feel like exploding out of the start gate and bveing super aggressive, while others need a more calming , focused type of mind set.

Helping Athletes Succeed

I believe that I have treated each athlete with respect and have helped them to learn life skills which will benefit them in their future. Hard work, integrity, achievement, dealing with disappointments, goal setting, nutrition, fitness and a love of sport and the outdoors.

Competition History

4 X Whistler Cup, InterNational competition
6 X Canadian National Juvenile competition
3 X Canadian National Senior competition
7 X North American Senior competition
19 X Alberta Provincials competition

Personal Best

I am very proud to have coached some Olympians, but i am more proud of seeing athletes whom I have coached now getting into coaching themselves. They obviously see and feel the enthusiam I have for the sport and now can enjoy the sport from the coaching side.

Additional Comments

As an athlete, being small in alpine ski racing is not the best option! I learned that I had to work that much harder and be that much more fit in order to compete. I proved this can be done, by competing in the World Alpine Championships as well as the Olympic winter Games.
